Service Guide

This is a guide to our regular worship services, and an indication of what takes place at each one.

Sundays at 8.00am

Holy Communion from the Book of Common Prayer. A traditional spoken service from the 1662 revision of Cranmer's liturgy. There are no hymns, and there is a short homily.

Sundays at 11.00am

Morning Prayer (usually 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays), Holy Communion (2nd Sunday), Family Services (two or three times a term - see dates above). We use the new Common Worship liturgies, and a variety of hymns and songs. Our worship is accessible to all, and on Sundays except Family Service days the children go out after the first part of the service to Sunday School in the school buildings.

Sundays at 6.30pm

Evening Prayer, CW (1st and 4th Sunday), Evening Prayer, BCP (2nd Sunday), Holy Communion BCP (3rd Sunday). The 1662 BCP liturgy includes traditional hymns and some canticles.

Wednesday Worship at 9.00am

Join us for an informal time of worship, fellowship, teaching, discussion and prayer. 9.00am - 9.45am on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Coffee and croissants from 8.45am.

On the fourth Wednesday there is Oasis & Prayer with the opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer.

Summer Holiday Children’s Specials

Except when there is a family service in the summer holidays, ‘Summer Special’ activities are arranged for the younger children. These are held in the school.

Additional Information

"Gems" for babies and toddlers 0 - 2s

crecheThis is available each Sunday for babies and very young children during main morning services. Gems join the older Sparklers group (reception to year 2) when the children go out to Sunday School (about 10 minutes into the service). They are accompanied by Gems adult helpers. The Gems helpers are co-ordinated by Clare Miles.

There is no toilet in church, but you are welcome to use the facilities at the Rectory if necessary (these are not disabled toilets) - a member of the Welcome Team will take you over to the house during the service.

Since our ancient church is set on a little hill there are steep paths from each lychgate. However there is a level path leading from the Rectory across the top of the churchyard to the north door. Access to this path is via the Rectory driveway in Rectory Drive off the High Street.

Loop System

The church is fitted with a loop system for those with hearing difficulties.

We seek to serve our whole community, and we hope that you will have found something in our pattern of services that allows you to come and spend time at St Lawrence's, meeting with God and with one another.

We look forward to seeing you soon !
