Know God, Show His Love, Grow His Church

Southborough Team

800th Anniversary

All healthy churches, committed to the corporate and individual Christian growth of their members, recognise the importance of meeting regularly in small groups. A Sunday Service is a wonderful place to worship God together with others in the church family, and to hear the Bible read and preached. But it is not always possible, in the context of a church service, to ask questions, discuss the issues that have been raised, share one’s personal needs, or be prayed for.

The first Christians met in the Temple for corporate worship, as we do in church, but we are told in the Bible that they also met regularly in their homes, to worship, learn, share their needs, and pray (Acts 2:42-47).

At St Lawrence there is a range of small groups that meet at different times and for different reasons. You are welcome to join one of these groups - please contact Stephen Hills, who will be pleased to talk with you, and recommend a suitable group. Here are details of some of the groups -

Serendipity Groups

There are five of these friendship groups of between half-a-dozen and a dozen folk, who meet (either weekly, fortnightly or monthly) to study the Bible and to care for and support to one another. Some meet during the day, and some in the evenings.

More2Life Groups

Two new groups, that meet fortnightly to study the Bible and discuss how it can be applied to 21st Century lives. Wherever we are on our ‘journeys’, there is always ‘more to life’ to be discovered, and these groups are good places to explore different aspects of the Christian way in the company of followers on the same road.

Alpha and Post-Alpha Groups

An opportunity for those who are still deciding whether the Christian journey is one they wish to embark upon, or who have just decided that they do, to learn about the basics of the Christian faith and to ask questions. See the Alpha page for more details. We run one Alpha course a year, and sometimes those who have completed the course form a Post-Alpha group for continued discussion and support as they seek to develop in their new-found faith.
